BEIJING – China's virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) market is expected to expand significantly from 2021 to 2025, according to an industry report.

In the next five years, the sector's compound growth rate will reach 77.2 percent, read a report released by global market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC).

Shipments of VR products in the country are forecast to top 12 million units, while shipments of AR products will hit approximately 4 million units in 2025, according to the IDC.

In the first quarter of 2021, China shipped 210,000 VR headsets, up 32 percent year on year, data from the IDC shows.
