The total assets of Chinese financial institutions expanded by 10.1 percent from a year earlier to 413.46 trillion yuan ($59.29 trillion) as of the end of September, according to preliminary statistics published by the country's central bank on Tuesday.

Liabilities of the country's financial institutions came in at 376.61 trillion yuan in total as of the end of the third quarter, up 10.3 percent year-on-year, the People's Bank of China said.

Specifically, total assets and liabilities of the country's banking institutions came in at 373.88 trillion yuan and 342.94 trillion yuan as of the end of September, respectively, the PBOC said.
